Learning to Write with Sidewalk Chalk

Sidewalk chalk is a great tool for teaching all sorts of things. We are having a great time learning letters, numbers, shapes and colors and have even started writing some letters. Today 'H' and 'F' were our letters of the day!

Where the Sidewalk Ends

Today was a great day for playing outside! We raked, we ran, we threw balls and we had a great time writing letters on the sidewalk, saying the sounds and then hopping to the correct letter. Towards the end I added some numbers and I hopped to each one saying their names.

We have been working on the sounds of letters lately and this activity really helped a lot! I was surprised at how many sounds Ethan actually knows (A,B,C,D,L,M,N,P,S,T,Z). Thanks Super Why! I need to look into getting the shows on DVD for the long road trips!

Towards the end of our activity, it started to sprinkle. We played outside until the rain was pouring down and I was afraid Ethan was going to slip on the grass.

He had a great time and I had fun too! After all, it won't be forever that he will want to dance with Mommy in the rain.
