Battles at Bedtime

Since we first started napping Ethan in his crib (around 4 months old) he has been a great baby to put to sleep. He started signing "sleep" early and that helped us to know when he was tired or needed a nap. I was so happy every time I put him in his crib, he would look up at us, suck his little thumb and roll over and go to sleep... a lot of times without the slightest bit of protest! It was a great feeling and in the back of my head I knew it was too good to be true, but it was sure nice while it lasted.

Today was something different, it has been a battle, and it started to show its ugly head last night when Derrick and I were putting him to bed. Last night he wouldn't go to bed without daddy giving him a hug, tonight he screamed, (only for about 3 minutes at the most) but it is the most he has done in a long time, and then finally fell asleep. The nap issue was even worse today, and we ended up only getting in a 1/2 hour nap at most (he had fallen asleep in the car on the way home and wouldn't go back down for a nap when we got home).

I know he is tired, and I tried everything (bath, book, songs and massage), but he just wouldn't go down with out crying. I hope this is short term, I know he is getting a eye tooth so I am going to try and blame it on that for right now... I just don't want to admit that my child is resisting and becoming a "normal" toddler.

Hopefully it is just a phase... please let it be a short phase!
