An African Safari in Ohio

Our trip to the African Safari in Texas was so much fun we jumped at the chance to do it again when we learned that there was an African Safari in Ohio, not too far from our condo.  We had a discount for everyone in our group, so that was even better!

Derrick's parents had never been before, so when we arrived, we removed all the kids' car seats, pushed some things to the back, and piled in for some crazy fun!

We purchased a few cups of pellets and shared them between everyone in the van.

Everett was unsure he wanted to feed any of the animals at first.

Elliot didn't like them getting too close.

Grandpa didn't really say too much, at times he seemed annoyed they kept coming in the windows.

It's a stare down, safe on Grandma Vicky's lap.

Now they are both happy.

We were moving very slowly through the park, so Ethan was able to feed from the back and the front.

At one point I thought they would jump into the window at Ernie to get his cup of food.

Sometimes they would pull it right out of your hand if you weren't careful!

Ethan loved feeding them by hand!

This kid can make you smile with his silly faces!

I was a bit nervous when the bison started coming near the van.  Those horns could do some damage.

First, he decided to say hello to Derrick in the front seat. 

Derrick wasn't expecting that!

Then he realized where the food was.  His tongue was all over the place!

Elliot watched from the safety of Derrick's arms.

He somewhat resembles our dog, Milo.

This friendly guy allowed us to feel the velvet on his antlers.

Ethan got to do it too!  So cool!

The zebras were back from the road so they couldn't come to the van for food.
I was okay with that, as they were aggressive at the Texas park.

Elliot decided he might be be interested in feeding an animal too.

Maybe.

He laughed when he stole the carrot from his hand.

So he tried again. (It almost looks like Vicky's head was replaced.)

And again!

It was a lot of fun (although this one was much smaller than the one in Texas) and we were all glad we had gone.  After we were finished I drove over to the "cleaning station" where I was able to give the van a good vacuum and a wipe all the interior surfaces down with sanitizing wipes.  After that was finished and we all washed our hands, the only evidence of our adventure was the nose prints and slobber smears on the outside of the van that we will have to wash off next time we hit the car wash.

Definitely check out an African Safari if you are ever near one, they are sure to be a lot of fun!
