Springtime at Ledges State Park

This weekend we enjoyed time at Ledges State Park with my Uncle Craig.  He was camping with some friends that were doing an obstacle course race near by, so we went to visit him at the campground.

Friday night was chilly, but we sat around the fire after dinner and enjoyed some roasted marshmallows, and the fire kept us warm.  The kids had a great time tossing the football, running around, throwing bark into the fire and enjoying being outside exploring as kids.

"Hey Elliot, I think you have something on your face."

You can't tell from this photo, but the drop is straight down!
Made me pretty nervous with the boys running around.

Ethan had a baseball game on Saturday morning so we couldn't camp overnight, but they were begging to stay.  I promised we could come back.

Sunday, late morning we went out to visit again, and the temperature was perfect for spending time outside.  We ate lunch at Hickory Park (one of our favorite places to eat in Ames) and then went to the park and hiked around the trails and played in the water at the bottom of the canyon.  It was a great day and nice to be out exploring.  The kids didn't want to leave but as soon as they were buckled in their seats and headed home, they fell asleep, napping for a good 2 hours!

It was a great weekend and nice to spend it with family.  If it was up to our kids, we would camp every night!

Wading in the water is the best part of the Ledges!

Such a sweet boy when he wants to be!

Elliot loves tossing rocks into the water.

Gotta love the missing button and belly show!

Everett insisted on standing on his own rock.

Then he spotted some fish.

Elliot decided to be really COOL and wade in a little deeper.

Everett fell on his bottom in the water.  Burrr!

Elliot insisted in getting all the way in.  That water was chilly!
