Baby Washcloths / Eco Wipes

My second sewing project is in full swing.

After Ethan outgrew the baby washcloths I purchased for him as a baby, I turned them into cloth napkins and have been using them for the last few years wiping noses, cleaning messy hands and faces, and at the kitchen table.

I am thinking of cloth diapering baby boy #2 and wanted some cloth wipes as well as some new bathing washcloths. I picked up some fabric on sale, and decided I could sew two squares together to make a wipe.

I cut all the pieces tonight, and managed to complete three washcloths. They look nice and I am stoked I to have used and succeeded at my first attempt of a zig-zag stitch.

The front is a soft cotton flannel and the back is a nice fluffy cotton terry cloth.

I have been having some problems with the sewing machine (it won't keep the tension all the time) so I ended up stopping with three and will be calling Grandpa Collins in the morning to see if he can figure out what is going on. I'm sure it is an operator error.

Baby Sewing Projects

I picked out my fabric yesterday from JoAnn Fabrics and started on my first project before the baby arrives. I found a great tutorial at Freshly Picked for a nursing cover up and started sewing.

3 hours later, after interruptions and learning new techniques, I finished. I am very happy with how it turned out and can't wait to use it when baby boy #2 arrives.

Next project... cloth baby wipes and washcloths.

Ready or Not... here come the questions.

Today we played at the park near our house. There were a few other kids playing there as well that were close in age to Ethan. After playing, on our drive home, he asked me a question, "Mommy, when we were at the park there was 2 boys and 2 girls... one of the girls said that Heaven was in the sky and we looked up but I didn't see Heaven. Is Heaven in the sky or is it in the ground?".

Wow, what a question.

We talked about Heaven and God for a little bit, but still he sat with a puzzled look on his face. "Mommy, you said a long time ago that your Daddy and Grandpa were in Heaven... but we went to see them and they are in the ground? Is Heaven in the ground?"

It is so cute to hear how the mind of a child works. I love our conversations!

34 weeks

Baby is really making himself known over the last week or so with his movements and kicking the heck out of my ribs! We have decided on a name, although Ethan still wants to put his name in the middle name, and all the baby clothes are washed and hung in the closet with burp towels, diapers and tiny socks.

Ethan helped me put the bouncy seat together and get the car seat ready, and we are still on the hunt for the bars to finish setting up the co-sleeper. I WILL find them, but it is taking forever to go through all the boxes in the storage room, so I am glad we still have 6 weeks left!

I have started nesting, and am taking the deep cleaning in baby steps and clearing out unloved items at the same time, and Derrick has even started to get organized in the garage! Whoo-hoo!

My OB appointment went well today, with a total weight gain on paper coming in at 24 lbs! I am still in shock, since I gained so much with Ethan, but it is completely normal and baby is doing great, so I am not going to argue. I just hope it comes off easy!

Every morning Ethan jumps in bed with Derrick and I and snuggles between us to talk with the baby. He has been making up songs to sing to him, but occasionally belts out the ABC song or Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star, because he thinks that those are a few of the baby's favorite songs. I love this time together in the morning.

Every time he sees my belly exposed, he runs over to me and gives it kisses as well as tells the baby he is "such a good boy"! He is going to be such a great big brother!

Ethan is totally in love with this belly and I thank God every morning for such a wonderful experience and pregnancy! I am getting sad to see this pregnancy end, but can't wait to meet our little boy bundle and see big brother Ethan kiss him on his sweet little face!!

Preschool Theatre

Today, a friend had a great idea to read the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' to the kids and then have them act out the story. I didn't have high expectations for this, as I didn't know if 3 and 4 year olds would focus long enough to put on a play... but we went along with it.

So I read the story, then after reading we set up the basement for the different scenes in the story. I asked for four volunteers to be the different characters of the story. Ethan chose to be Mama Bear.

I started to narate the story and I was amazed how well the kids remembered what they were to say with each character and they even changed their voices at times to act surprised and sad.

It was a great experience and I think we will have a few more theatre days down the road! Maybe we will do this one again and get it on video!

Decorating Easter Eggs

We boiled a few eggs today and decided to decorate Easter eggs. Ethan was very excited and they turned out nice. Too bad I dropped a few after they were done cooking and cracked them, but he was happy anyway just to drop them in the dye.

While we were in the spirit of decorating Easter eggs, we decided to decorate my belly too. Ethan had some Easter tattoos and he helped me put them on my belly. Excuse the stretch marks.
