A Lazy Day in Frisco, Colorado

Our first few days have been busy, so today we took some time to relax and enjoy Frisco.  We needed groceries, so that was first on the list, but after we unpacked our food, we headed out to let the kids play and see what adventures we could find.

There was a huge space for the boys to run around behind our condo.  They decided to play some football.

"Mom, I can write my name!" says Elliot

TOUCHDOWN!

After playing football for a bit, we decided to go for a drive to find a playground and possibly do some geocaching.  The marina was right down the street, so we thought we'd checkout the playarea.  

The playground equipment was interesting and slightly dangerous!

This is a modern marry-go-round.  When Derrick pushed it, I could barely stay on myself!!  The kids loved it!

Everett loved all the climbing areas!  It was like "Ninja Warrior"!

He climbed to the top and was so proud!

Elliot loved climbing too, and it made me nervous watching him and helping him, so I suggested he and I take a walk over to see if we could find the geocache nearby.

This was the first geocache he found on his own!  You can see he was very happy with himself!

After finding it and replacing it, he brought over the boys to see if they could find it.

They needed a hint and a little help.

After hanging out at the playground, I wanted to take a little hike, so we packed up and drove down the street a little bit to see if we could get out to the "island" on Lake Dillon.  Another geocache was hidden out there too, so that was more motivation to go.

Everyone was excited to see the "island" as we started off on our hike.

As we got closer to the water, the energy increased!

I was thankful there was sand for us to walk on.

While exploring the "island" and looking for the geocache the kids found something else really cool!

Ethan was the first brave one to stick his arm under the rock.

Found it!

After locating and replacing the geocache, the kids went to work on the fort they had discovered.  They wanted to help build it bigger!

Dad stepped in to help.

Of course, they had to add another log to the pile!

Once I gave the "this is not safe" warning call, thankfully they moved on to something else.

We found a few flat rocks and tried skipping them.

Everyone tried skipping rocks, but Ethan was the only one that could skip as many times as Derrick!

The clouds were getting heavier, and time was passing quickly (and Elliot was getting pretty close to falling in while grabbing rocks), so we hiked on to locate the 2nd geocache.

We all checked it out to see what was inside.  Ethan and Elliot found some trinkets, Everett found a quarter.
I did my duty of signing the log!

After we signed the log and replaced the cache, it started to sprinkle on us, so we headed back to the van.

On the way back it started to sprinkle off and on.  We could see the weather coming in the distance.

Along the way Ethan touched this plant and asked me to smell it.
It smelled herbal, but we didn't know what it was exactly.

We were thankful we made it back to the condo before the rain started to fall.

It didn't rain heavily until we were back at the condo, but the sprinkles made us worry we might get caught in the storm.  It was a fun day outside and the kids had a TON of fun exploring!  I'm glad that the Where the Wild Things Are Island geocache brought us to this little hike.
